"The Queen of the Mists calls to all within her realm and bids them hear these words," the herald calls out nervously in the hall I have allowed for such matters. "The Undersea is poised to attack our fair lands and all true Fae are bid arm themselves for the realm! Three days hence shall battle be engaged."
I stare at the daoine sidhe long enough that I can see sweat begin beneath his helm. Good. The Divided Courts forget all too easily that my Court is not part of their domain.
"Why three days? I would think with the Sea poised so that tradition would be set aside for the good of the realm."
"The Queen has allowed one Sir October Daye to attempt to forestall the perceived injustice the Undersea claims."
I do not realize I have shifted position and stance to one threatening until the herald takes a step backward. "You will tell me, now, what injustice this is and what Sir Daye intends to do about it," I command as my guards close on the man.

Date: 2015-01-31 07:15 pm (UTC)I feared if the duties of my people continued to pull me from October's side, I would have to procure one of those pocket telephones Raj had been insisting I needed. I had no wish for such a device in my life. While many claimed it made life easier, from all I could see it made life more convenient for others to contact you rather than improving one's life. Still, for October, I would acquiescence.
Hearing her footsteps, I quickly added another spoonful of sugar, despite Raj's expression of panic and distaste, and turned to present my offering. She accepted the mug and took a small sip before setting the cup down on the counter. I fear the sugar was a grave error. Toby always drank the first taste of coffee as if she were in fatal need of water.
"So why are you really here?" Toby asks.
And we go straight to the meat of the matter. I glace at Raj nervously, a flick of movement none but a cait sidhe would know. Would she accept our people's aid in protecting her fiefdom if it came to war? My people would guard Goldengreen regardless, but it would be so much easier and effective if we were permitted entry, especially since the fiefdom's backdoor was to the ocean.
